Information:
This coffee comes from the farm of Mr. Ocholo Bedecho, who tends 8 hectares of land in the Urga district of the Guji zone. It is one of the largest farms in the area.
Coffee is the backbone of his livelihood, and his entire family works the land full time. Through it, he has been able to send all eight of his children to school.
Guji is a beautifully forested region in southern Ethiopia, where smallholders grow coffee at very high altitudes in rich red highland soils. Sitting between 2,200 and 2,300 masl, these extreme elevations slow cherry development and concentrate flavor in ways that set Guji apart from neighbouring regions.
The variety is a blend of native heirloom Ethiopian cultivars not traceable to a single type, but rooted in a genetic diversity that has been growing wild and cultivated in Ethiopia for centuries.
After harvesting, the coffee is picked ripe, depulped the same day, and fermented for 8–12 hours in open-air tanks before being washed and dried on raised beds for up to 15 days. The fully washed process keeps the cup clean and precise, letting the terroir and the heirloom character speak clearly.
