The estate was founded by Ben Colbran in the 1960’s when \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethe Government encouraged foreign agriculturalists to begin cultivat\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eing land throughout the highlands. Ben first purchased the land from a \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003enative man named Taro and was amongst the first farmers to cultivate \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ecoffee in these valleys. Today, Ben’s son Nichol runs the plantation.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe name ‘Baroida’ comes from the Baroida spirit, believed by locals \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eto reside in a large river rock sitting in one of the main rivers flowing \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"\u003ethrough the estate. This particular rock has stubbornly remained in \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethe middle of the river for as long as anybody can remember, refusing \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eto budge through the most severe floods, even when other rocks have \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"\u003ebeen washed away.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe Baroida plantation sits at the apex of the Lamari river valley and \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"\u003eMount Jabarra range.
