Finca Pampojilá is a historic coffee farm in Guatemala, founded in the 1850s by Manuel and Monica Diaz. Over the years, it has earned numerous national awards and built a strong reputation for quality. In 2010, tropical storm Agatha caused significant damage to the farm, leading the Diaz family to sell it to Agropecuaria Atitlán. This transition sparked a period of renewal, with new coffee varieties planted and modern infrastructure introduced to support innovative processing methods. Today, Finca Pampojilá is thriving once again. As a proud member of the Association of Private Natural Reserves of Guatemala, the farm dedicates half of its land to preserving the natural tropical forest that surrounds it.
Among the varieties cultivated here is Ruiru 11, a hybrid developed in Kenya and released in 1985. It brings together the genetics of N39, SL 28, SL 34, Bourbon, Rume Sudan, Timor Hybrid, and several other types, representing a rich and resilient lineage. The farm lies in the Atitlán region, a geographically diverse area, contributing to the citrus acidity and deep chocolate flavors of the coffees produced in this region. 90% of the coffees in this area are grown on the volcanic slopes surrounding Lake Atitlan. Winds blow across the cool waters, the rain is plentiful, and the soil is rich, all contributing factors to the varying microclimates and cup profiles from this area.
